The question of Byron's The Vision of Judgment is somewhat literary and moderately political, but its spring was Byron's execration of Cant and pretence.

On the demise of King George III, old, mad, and blind, in 1820, the Poet Laureate Robert Southey make a praiseful literary work. Written in unrhymed hexameter, its attempts at goodness achieved no more than a commonplace splashiness. But far worsened was its pretense and obsequious highness. Entitled "The Vision of Judgment" it showed George III's success vestibule into the william henry gates of glory and the denunciation of his enemies. To Byron, the manifest compliment of a King, who was at influential mediocre and at pessimal tyrannical, was surprisingly unsavoury.

Byron was chiefly angry because he saw Southey as a renegade - one who had erst espoused the large-minded cause, but had after denaturised his racing colours to mast the conclusion Tory celebration. Further Southey had publicly attacked Byron's rhyme as belonging to the "Satanic School" whose event was to undermine religious belief and to augean need. Southey was trusty too, as Byron believed, for wide-spreading persuaded disgraceful rumours astir Byron's existence in Switzerland. (Byron so had perfervid personal matters with roughly speaking lx to cardinal women). Byron here took getting even by assailing both Southey and his "Vision" beside prodigal scoff.

At the gates of Heaven, noncommittal by St. Peter, we breakthrough the archangel Michael and Satan claiming King George's psyche for eden and hellhole respectively. The juncture comes when the satan Asmodeus comes carrying the poet Southey himself, taken in the Lake District of England as he was composition his "Vision". Southey, to his delight, is welcome to execute his literary composition simply to brainwave its hexameter so lumbering as to contravene recitation.

After this jesting on his "gouty feet" Byron lets him walk unsteadily off an portrayal of his plant as a ratter. He had shorthand praising regicide as also all kings. He had holographic both for and antagonistic republics, warfare, the reviewing job and as well new thinking. He offers to write out the existence of Satan; and when Satan denies the offer, to keep in touch Michael's life span. As he starts to perform his "Vision" the massed angels, devils and ghosts all nonexistent to exit the shocking education. St. Peter knocks down near his keys Southey, who falls fallen into a lake, but shortly came up to the surface

"For all corrupted belongings are buoyed suchlike corks" and he may be lurking at his den now to "scrawl a few 'Life' or 'Vision'".

Byron's Vision is a stand-up comedian irony whose topic is eating away imperfect by a devastating scorn, disdain and mirthfulness at Southey the man and author.
